"Nickel is a German word for Satan"

Albert Stwertka, author of A Guide to the Elements Third Edition, writes about the element nickel saying “Nickel is a German word for Satan, and the element is thought to be have been named for the German Kupfernickel, or Satan’s copper.”

Yesterday at the library I randomly scanned the chemistry section and picked up the book A Guide to the Elements Third Edition by Albert Stwertka. Interested mostly in what he has to say about nickel, I immediately turned to page 95. He introduces the element writing “Nickel is a German word for Satan, and the element is thought to be have been named for the German Kupfernickel, or Satan’s copper.”

Reading that sentence immediately made me laugh and think. My nickel food allergy definitely is an internal adversary. I have whole hardheartedly accepted it as a part of who I am AND at the same time my mind is conflicted with the various and ongoing choices I have to make in relationship to my nickel food allergy. I mean even my immune system is hyperactive about it all!
